When I started FNPhenomenal, it was the end of 2012. I had lost myself in trying to keep up with the Joneses. I was anchoring my self-worth in the things that I could do and buy. I was deep in debt and I knew that in order to transform my spending I needed to work on me and do some things differently. However, at that time, I still wanted an active social life, that Sex and the City lifestyle, but I wanted it for less, a little more authentically, and on a budget. I wanted to be able to go shopping with the girls, head to happy hour, or take a vacation without the fear that my card would be declined. I also wanted to feel comfortable enough in my own skin to say “no” and to stay home and be by myself if that is how I felt.
I carried a lot of hurt from getting teased in summer camp one day when I was around 12 years old because I had on non-brand shoes. I felt this deep need to fit in and to look the same as everyone else and do the same things as everyone else because I was afraid that if I didn’t I would feel ostracized or get teased. I needed FNPhenomenal to help show me that I was more than that. I needed to get back to me. I needed to walk in authenticity and by writing and sharing on FNPhenomenal I was able to transform my financial habits.
FNPhenomenal also helped me to process some of the things I was dealing with around workplace bullying. The bullies at work sought to undermine my self-confidence and inflict emotional pain on me. The sad thing is that I eventually started to believe what my oppressors were saying. I started to believe I was worthless, wasn’t smart, not talented, and because of those things, I deserved to be treated the way I did. FNPhenomenal helped me to learn that wasn’t true. It helped me to see that it was them and not me. It helped me to go on a healing journey from that place.
Once I became a single mom of twins in 2015, I tried to hold onto that same Sex and the City-on-a-budget life that I had originally envisioned for FNPhenomenal. However, the further along in the single motherhood journey I went, I realized I was doing myself a disservice because I was walking inauthentically. God was moving me and I realized that holding onto the old was a form of disobedience. I was different. My faith was way different. My life was different. God gave me new people to serve and I needed to answer the call. I also needed to heal myself.
Again, I went on another healing journey. My writing became a sense of therapy for me. It helped me to see the bigger picture and purpose that God has for me as a woman, a mom, and a child of the Most High God. I shared an emotional video at the time about where God was leading me. Click here if you missed it.
As I continued on my journey as a mom and deepening my faith, I began to realize that the stuff I loved to write about before (mostly money topics) no longer brought me the same source of joy as it did before. Therefore, I began to write about faith, parenting, money, and more – the things that God was calling me to write. As I started to notice that I was writing less about money topics for single moms, I began to reimagine and change the FNPhenomenal brand in the process. I thought I finally found the perfect rebrand, but eventually, God told me that the FNPhenomenal brand no longer fit the new journey. I felt a deep sense of loss. I didn’t want to let go of the brand that had been with me on so many journeys. I wanted to keep it and morph it into what God wanted it to be, but God said “no.”
Therefore, the time has come to part ways with FNPhenomenal and to begin again as a new brand. I will be sharing more, including the new name, as the new brand progresses. Don’t worry, though. I’m not going away (BTW the current site www.FNPhenomenal.com will remain online so you can read and revisit your favorite posts, but it will not be updated with new content).
