As 2014 comes to a close and we embark on a new year, it is important that we take the time to reflect on how the prior year went.  As we live, each day should be better than the last and each year should be better than the last. Does that mean that everything will be perfect? No. However, everyday that you are alive you should learn something or do something that expand your thoughts and horizons and honors God.

During your period of reflection you need to think about the following questions.
  • What went well?
  • What didn’t?
  • Did you meet your goals of the year?
  • What lessons did you learn?
As you think through and reflect on those questions, think about how you can leverage your experiences and knowledge to make 2015 better than 2014?  Ask yourself, “How can I move closer to my goals and purpose in the New Year?”  Life is too short to live a life other than the life that God wants you to have, but in order to do that you must be sure that you are aligning yourself with His will and purpose for your life.

As I think through this year, it’s been a true test of faith. I trusted God when He told me to leave my corporate finance job of 6 years to take a short term contract position with no benefits. I then trusted God when He told me to go part time instead of continuing with full time employment. After I did that I listened to Him when He told me to pursue my entrepreneurial endeavors full-time instead of part time. I had to trust that if I walked in my purpose, then God would provide. Those weren’t easy decisions, but I understand them now because I feel so full with God’s spirit and direction. I never imagined that I could feel this way, and I’m excited about where God is leading me in 2015.

I challenge you to review the questions above and those in the Intention Setting Worksheet (click the link to get your free download), so you can close out 2014, take the lessons learned, and then leverage them to make 2015 great. I look forward to hearing about what you learned.
