Managing your finances and creating a financial blueprint for your life isn’t about practicing deprivation, it’s about getting strategic so you can create the life of your dreams. I learned this the hard way. Despite my professional job, I still lived paycheck-to-paycheck. On the outside looking it, it appeared that I had everything, but I was deep in debt and I was stressed out because of my finances. I was terrified every time I swiped my credit card because I was scared that it would get declined.
One day, I had a wake-up call and I knew that this spending couldn’t continue. I had to do something different, so I learned how to control my spending, still have fun, and build a solid financial future. This strategy has helped me to repay credit card debt, build an income from home, retire from my corporate job, and still be able to have fun!
Now, as a single mom of twins, it is even more important to practice solid money habits. I want to set a good example for my kids, build a financial legacy, and to help them to have amazing experiences.
This is why I created this annual budget. I wanted to implement the lessons that I learned from creating annual business cases and budgets and forecasts for a Fortune 100 company. I believed that if we manage our personal finances like a corporation then we will have better insight, be more prepared and plan for unexpected expenses, seasonality, and irregular expenses. If we have a plan then we can avoid credit card usage, stress, falling behind on bills, and late fees.
