FNPhenomenal Mom is a series that I am doing to highlight Single Moms who are amazing moms and who are also rocking it out personally in their careers, entrepreneurship, or in the community. I think that it is important to show other single moms that it is possible to raise amazing children without sacrificing who you are as a woman. These interviews are motivational, but also include practical advice on how to structure your life for success, financial management tips, and techniques to teach your children about finances. We are all in this journey together. My hope is to highlight other moms, share best practices, and in turn provide hope, encouragement, and motivation to help you to succeed and to define your own phenomenal.

What do you do (entrepreneur, career, etc.) and why is it important?
I work full time as a secretary, and I am also building my empire JVillage, Inc. Working in my calling/gift/passion as the Single Mom Sage is the most important because I help single moms move from surviving to THRIVING.
This work is important because as a single mom, I know how easy it is to become overwhelmed and at times want to give up. It seems like we are constantly fighting an uphill battle and nothing is ever good enough. It is important to me to be able to pour into other single mothers’ lives and encourage them, help them work through their past, and share my heart with them so that they can release the past, embrace the present, and THRIVE in the future.
What would you tell your younger self that would have been instrumental during your journey?
You are WORTHY. You are more than enough. Sit still, watch, observe and learn before you speak. Also, I would advise the younger me to “start loving you”.
What is the single best piece of advice that you have learned?
“When are you going to see how amazing you are like we do?” ~Kenya Kirkland “The Style Icon”
Once my friend told me that, I woke up and saw life differently. Since then, I have focused on her words and learned to see how amazing I am.
How can single moms be great moms and still pursue their dreams and goals?
Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize and give yourself some grace. You are only one person. The key is making sure your dreams and goals are in alignment with your life. Don’t look for them to be materialized the same way that you dreamed when you were younger. T hey will look different because you are different, and that is ok.
Who do you look up to and why?
I have a team of mentors that I look up to. In addition to direct mentorship, I learn a lot even from watching them in their own lives. Each one of them pushes me further and to be better. I look to them for guidance because I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Although I am no longer technically a child, I depend on my village to raise me to be wiser and stronger every day.
What are your guiding principles?
Grow, Learn, Don’t Stop, Serve, be PINKtentional (Pink’s version of Intentional), and THRIVE! Every day I make sure I am growing, learning, serving, being intentional in everything I say and do. I’m committed to never giving up and THRIVING! Some days I fall short. However, every day I focus on these things and give myself grace for wherever I fell short because tomorrow I get to do it all over again.
What does the word “phenomenal” mean to you?
Phenomenal means to NEVER GIVE UP! It means to continue to fight through, grow through, learn, and keep doing more. It means to be extraordinary.
What is your best advice for moms?
Listen to your inner voice. Don’t worry so much about all the outside advice, and trying to please and do things the way everyone else is doing them. Let your inner voice be your guide. It will tell you what to take in, what to let go of. It will tell you who to ask for advice and who to stay away from. You are the mom your kids need so give them YOU!
How do you stay aligned with your passion/purpose?
I constantly ask myself WHY. Why am I doing this, where did this idea come from, how does this help single moms THRIVE? In my personal life, I constantly ask myself how can I use this situation to help someone else, and how can I share this situation to help another woman heal. I also always ask how can I grow and learn from this experience and what is the lesson for me?
What is one key money principal that you live your life by?
I focus on creating generational wealth. It is not about how much money I have or what things I can buy. Everything for me is about providing generational wealth. Every dollar I spend must be an investment for my children’s children.
What is your favorite book and why?
I searched my brain to come up with another book than the Bible but I just couldn’t find one. It really has become my go to book. It answers every question I have. It has stories about women just like me (single moms) and how they were able to be great. It is my inspiration and provides peace.
